The City of Chandler has snagged itself a Healthy Arizona Worksite Platinum Award, recognizing the city's efforts in promoting health and well-being for employees, their families, and the Chandler community. The Arizona Department of Health Services bestowed this honor on June 17, highlighting the city's commitment to fostering a healthier work environment through a variety of health-centric programs and activities.
Among the initiatives that helped Chandler earn this accolade were comprehensive health screenings, physical activity programs, and stress-management resources for its workforce. Additionally, the city's impressive show of organizational support for wellness in the workplace was notably, a key scoring category. Such initiatives indicate a dedication not only to individual health but also to the collective well-being of the wider community.
A pivotal aspect of the Platinum Level Award, a recognition reserved for businesses that have tangible impact both internally and in the wider community, revolves around data-driven programs and the creation of cross-sector collaborations. Chandler showcased its For Our City Day as a prime example that contributes to this category.
This annual event rallied 184 city employees in 2023 to volunteer in community upkeeping activities, a jump in participation from the 129 employees in 2022. These volunteers didn't shy away from getting their hands dirty by painting homes, weeding yards, and executing neighborhood cleanups in areas facing potential decline. The idea here is simple but effective: improve individual employee health by engaging them in community building and support, which, in turn, has a ripple effect on the overall health equity of the city.
