Chicagoans might want to keep an umbrella handy as the weather in the Windy City looks to be unpredictable in the coming days. According to the National Weather Service, there's a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms today, primarily between 3 pm and 5 pm. While the sun might grace the city's skies, the high is expected to hover near 81 degrees with winds shifting from south-southwest to east-southeast in the afternoon.
The nighttime forecast doesn't offer much respite, with a 20 percent chance of both showers and thunderstorms before and after the 7 pm to 10 pm window along with partly cloudy conditions and a low around 70 degrees. The weather pattern seems to hold steady into Monday, with similar thunderstorm risks and high temperatures. Notably, the forecast anticipates heavy rainfall on Wednesday as post-tropical storm Beryl's remnants pass through, a hazard for those located mainly along and southeast of the I-55 corridor.
In addition to the general forecast, a Hazardous Weather Outlook has been issued for much of the region. For today and tonight, there's a limited thunderstorm risk, especially for areas north of the I-80 corridor. Spotter activation isn't expected to be necessary, as severe weather isn't anticipated. However, the outlook for Monday through Saturday warns of thunderstorms, particularly on Monday and Tuesday, and an elevated flooding risk by mid-week.
Chance for showers and thunderstorms this afternoon north of I-80, but there is uncertainty on the amount of coverage of storms. There are better chances for showers and storms Mon as a front pushes through. An active pattern remains in place through mid week. #ILwx #INwx pic.twitter.com/EFYdRRWUmX

Adding to the weather conversation, the National Weather Service Chicago, through their X feed, confirms "Chance for showers and thunderstorms this afternoon north of I-80," with Monday also seeing a heightened possibility for storms as a front rolls in. An ongoing active weather pattern maintains a backdrop of uncertainty through the middle of the week. Movement of the storm system is expected towards the east around 25 mph, so residents and visitors to Chicago will need to plan accordingly.
