Residents and business owners in Chicago's 9th District are on alert following a series of burglary incidents reported in Deering throughout June.
The Chicago Police Department has issued a warning about an unidentified perpetrator, seen arriving on bicycle, who has been breaking into various businesses to steal property. Incidents were specifically noted on the 2300 Block of S. Archer Avenue and the 2600 Block of S. Halsted Street on June 29, as well as the 200 Block of W. Cermak Road on June 30, according to a business alert posted by Chicago police.
In response to these burglaries, authorities have offered a number of precautionary measures for local businesses. Recommendations include keeping properties well-lit and securing all doors and windows. The alert also advises that business owners should repair any broken windows, doors, or locks promptly, and if video surveillance captured the incident, to save and provide a copy to investigating detectives. Furthermore, the police urge anyone approached by a witness to request their contact information.
