Residents in the 008th District (Chicago Lawn) and 009th District (Deering) of Chicago are on high alert after a spate of armed robberies were reported by the Chicago Police Department. According to the CPD, the incidents occurred throughout July, with the assailants, two armed men, approaching victims on the street to demand and forcibly take their belongings before quickly fleeing the scene. These robberies share common threads in terms of their execution and the suspects' descriptions.
The crime pattern involves the robbers taking personal property at gunpoint and using a vehicle to hastily escape. As reported by the CPD, all took place in the early morning hours of July 10 and 19 on blocks within South Mozart Street, South Hoyne Avenue, South Campbell Avenue, South Fairfield Avenue, and South Lavergne Avenue.
Descriptions of the offenders published by the CPD outline them as two male blacks, estimated to be between 18-30 years old, and of medium build, wearing black clothing with black ski masks to obscure their identities. The vehicles implicated in these incidents are a black SUV, a grey Jeep Cherokee, and a grey Infiniti with unknown Indiana plates, as detailed by the CPD. This level of detail intends to assist citizens in identifying and reporting any sightings of these individuals or vehicles.
In addition to personal vigilance, the alert stresses the importance of collaboration. It encourages witnesses or those approached by a witness to exchange contact information, and reminds individuals to "immediately dial 9-1-1 and remain on the scene when possible."
