Attention, Chicago drivers: The Chicago Police Department has announced that they'll be ramping up their DUI enforcement efforts in the Morgan Park area this weekend, specifically from Friday, July 19, at 6 p.m. to Saturday, July 20, at 2 a.m. According to the Chicago Police Department, this DUI Saturation Patrol aims to catch and deter impaired drivers through increased police presence and vigilant monitoring of traffic offenses, as well as focusing on speed, alcohol-related, and seatbelt violations.
The police detail will not be just hunting for inebriated drivers but also cracking down on other infringements which include speeding and the lack of proper seatbelting; officers are going to be aided by technology in the form of vehicles kitted out with speed detection gear, and there's also a chance the Breath Alcohol Testing (BAT) Mobile Unit might make a show, quickening the booking process for those nabbed with a DUI, the same mobile unit facilitates the issuance of Individual Recognizance Bonds at the location of the arrest.
These saturation patrols come with a history of results: just last weekend, the Chicago Police Department conducted a similar operation in the 12th (Near West) District, with the final tally of citations totaling 44, which included 12 for unsafe vehicle violations, 5 for insurance violations, and 6 related to seat belts, amongst other offenses, as per the Chicago Police Department.
