In an incident that brought a shadow over Independence Day celebrations, a child in Carroll County was severely injured due to a fireworks mishap. The accident occurred on the Fourth of July in the rural settings of Delphi, leaving a young child with significant facial burns which necessitated airlifting to a hospital. Carroll County Sheriff’s Department dispatchers were alerted about the firework accident at roughly 2:41 p.m, as reported by Clinton County Daily News.
Despite the child being a "good distance away" from where the fireworks were being ignited, a rogue piece from the explosion was able to tragically find its way to the child's face. "The parent of the young boy told authorities that a firework had exploded in the child's face," according to a statement made to FOX59. Emergency Medical Services, the Delphi Fire Department, and county deputies responded swiftly to the scene at a residence near Sleeth — a testament to the urgency of the situation.
No other individuals were reported injured during this accident. The severity of the child's injuries was significant enough that the first responders promptly decided to call in a medical helicopter. A makeshift landing zone was created at the intersection of County Road 975 West and County Road 700 North to facilitate the emergency transport, as detailed by WRTV.
