The City of Tamarac and Mayor Michelle J. Gomez have been named the recipients of the 2024 Mayors Municipal Innovation Awards (MMIA) in the Quality of Life Category. The Florida League of Mayors Inc. (FLM) recognized Tamarac for its city-wide Shine Tamarac project, which aims to quickly and effectively improve the city's aesthetics and thereby enhance residents' quality of life. Celebrating municipal creativity and governance, the MMIA acknowledges the efforts cities make to positively impact their inhabitants.
The initiative provides a platform, dubbed 'See, Click, Fix', that encourages and enables residents, businesses, and visitors alike to easily report and contribute to the upkeep and beautification of their surroundings. Mayor Gomez was quoted in a press release stating, "It is an honor for the City of Tamarac to receive its second FLM Municipal Innovation Award! Last year, Tamarac was awarded the Inaugural Award in the Quality of Life category for creating our Tamarac Pet Pantry. This year, the City is receiving the Award for our Shine Tamarac project." according to the City of Tamarac's website.
This year's distinction marks the second time the city has been acknowledged by the Florida League of Mayors for its innovative efforts to uplift the community. In the previous year, Tamarac earned the inaugural award in the same category for a project aimed at helping pet owners facing financial burdens. The continuous recognition is telling of the city's commitment to fostering an environment where community engagement is both welcomed and rewarded.
Gomez expressed gratitude for the honor and highlighted the collective nature of the city's endeavors, saying, "This Award recognizes our wonderful community effort as we are One Tamarac.
