A man found dead at a Kokomo car wash last Friday evening has been finally identified, following multiple appeals to the public for assistance. The Howard County Coroner's Office, alongside local police, had been working to identify the John Doe since his discovery inside the car wash facility located in the 2300 block of West Sycamore Street, near North Dixon Road.
Originally, the deceased was described as a 5’10”, 190-pound white male with brownish-gray colored short crewcut hair, a short beard, and a mustache. He was found clad in black and yellow swim trunks, a black backpack, and a pair of gray and blue tennis shoes. Additionally, "Police said the man may be diabetic, as unlabeled diabetes medications were found. However, crews did not find any other identifiable items.", according to FOX59. Officials believed the tattoos found on the man, which included the initials “K.A.W.”, a wolf’s face on his right arm, a large cross on his left arm, and an animal skull with horns on his calf could be the key to identifying him.
The notice, which was widely circulated, provided details of the tattoos and his possible medical condition to encourage anyone with information to come forward, as reported by WISHTV.
Law enforcement's efforts to identify the man, paired with community vigilance, proved successful when family members recognized the descriptions and came forward. Though the process of identification is a solemn reminder of loss, the relief of closure for the family came with its own measure of mercy. The confirmation of the man's identity was shared by the Howard County Coroner's Office, as per an article by WTHR. Further details surrounding the circumstances of the man's death are pending, following a thorough investigation by authorities.
