Friday's rush of traffic brought with it a dire tide of events on the streets of Indianapolis, as two separate incidents on the city's west and southwest sides punctuated the day with tragedy.
On the near west side, emergency responders raced to 16th Street and Tibbs Avenue shortly before the summer sun reached its high mark at around 1:41 p.m. It was there, according to an account provided by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department to FOX59, that they found a pedestrian, a woman, critically injured after being struck by a vehicle while to cross the road. The IMPD confirmed she had been urgently transported to a hospital where she remains in critical condition.
Merely hours later and a few miles away, another life hung precariously in the balance after a crash on the 4000 block of Kentucky Avenue near South Lynhurst Drive. At approximately 5:19 p.m., IMPD responded to reports of what they believed might turn out to be a fatal crash. The IMPD's release, relayed by WTHR, stated that despite medics' swift action, the victim was pronounced dead a few hours following their arrival at the area hospital. IMPD's fatal crash team has since taken up the investigation into the cause of the incident.
Back on 16th Street and Tibbs Avenue, the situation was painted with the brush of solemnity and dark coincidence. The details, as provided by WRTV, outlined that after police arrived to the scene around 1 p.m., they found the pedestrian in critical, yet stable condition. The driver, involved in what could have easily turned into a hit-and-run, instead chose to stay on scene and cooperated fully with the ensuing police investigation.
