A fiery spectacle unfolded on Interstate 10 as a FedEx trailer went up in flames late on July 17 near Verrado Way in Buckeye, causing a significant interruption to westbound traffic. Smoke and fire emanated from the FedEx truck, with its trailer heavily laden with parcels, temporarily transforming the interstate into a scene of slow-moving vehicles and emergency response. FOX 10 Phoenix reported the incident first, showing the truck on the roadside blanketed in smoke.
The blaze necessitated the closure of multiple lanes, leaving only the far left shoulder open for vehicles to crawl past the caution-taped scene, as traffic backed up, the patience of commuters was tested under the summer's scorching eye. By the early hours of the next day, around 3 a.m. on July 18, all lanes were reinstated to their bustling rhythm, as noted by 12News, much to the relief of the morning travelers.
Despite the dramatic scene, no injuries were reported in the incident. The investigation into what caused the ferryman of commerce to halt and erupt remains ongoing, the Department of Public Safety revealed that the fire originated with the combustion of four tractor-trailer tires which rapidly spread to consume the cab and its attached trailer.
