A 19-year-old man from Gainesville has been detained after allegedly driving his SUV into an apartment unit, causing serious injury to an child. The Gainesville Police Department responded to the chaotic scene at the Lenox Park Apartments, where the intense impact of the crash was evident from the gaping hole left in the building's exterior.
As reported by FOX 5 Atlanta, the suspect, identified as Erickson Mondesir, apparently fled the location, leaving behind an eight-year-old child with grave injuries in the aftermath of the crash. The young victim was subsequently airlifted to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta as part of an urgent medical response to address the trauma sustained.
In a twist that compounded the tragedy, authorities claimed that Mondesir decided not to assist the injured child before departing from the scene. At the time of the latest updates, Mondesir is being held at the Hall County Jail.
