A tragic collision in Bartholomew County has left a Greensburg woman dead and two others seriously injured, following a Tuesday afternoon incident involving two vehicles. Local law enforcement responded to the scene near the intersection of E 100 S and S 525 E, at approximately 4:11 p.m., where they discovered both a Chevrolet Impala and Chevrolet pickup truck with extensive damage and occupants trapped inside, according to FOX59.
The driver of the Impala, 51-year-old Tonya Whiteside, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in her vehicle, 47-year-old Christopher Harris, was severely injured and had to be flown by helicopter to Methodist Hospital. The condition of the pickup truck driver, who was also hospitalized, has yet not been updated. The local officials believe neither drugs nor alcohol were a factor, a detail confirmed in both WRTV reports and in a WTHR statement.
The preliminary investigation by the Bartholomew County Sheriff's Department, "At this time the preliminary investigation indicates that the [sedan] disregarded a stop sign at the intersection and entered the intersection resulting the collision", as mentioned in the sheriff's department social media communication. This early finding has initiated a more in-depth inquiry by the Bartholomew County Accident Reconstruction Team, as they work to piece together the events leading up to this fatal crash.
