
Hayward Police Department is seeking information on a shooting that resulted in the death of an 18-year-old from Hayward. The incident, which occurred last Saturday, unfolded near the intersection of Pompano Avenue and Sumatra Street at about 10:31 a.m. and then later near the 27000 block of Havana Avenue. According to the official report from the Hayward Police Department, officers, upon arrival, found evidence of a shooting and, shortly after that, located the victim, suffering gunshot wounds, in a collision involving a parked car.
The action was taken by the officers who, receiving additional reports of gunfire, located the wounded young man seated in the driver's car. Initially, he was promptly transferred to a nearby hospital for medical attention. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries and was later pronounced deceased at the medical facility. Authorities currently withhold the identity of the victim.
The fatal event marks the seventh homicide in Hayward for the year 2024, adding to a macabre tally that the community grieves. With no suspects in custody, the investigation into this incident remains vigorously active. Detectives comb through evidence and appeal to the public for any information that could assist in arresting and prosecuting those responsible.
