A devastating incident on the roads of Jackson County has claimed the life of a motorcyclist. The fatal crash occurred on Wednesday afternoon near the intersection of County Road 300 East and County Road 300 South, just east of Brownstown Township, as reported by WDRB. At approximately 1:32 p.m., local law enforcement officers and emergency crews responded to the scene, where resuscitative measures proved unsuccessful. The victim, identified as 66-year-old Kim C. Kaufman, was pronounced dead at the location by the Jackson County Coroner's Office, as FOX59 detailed.
The crash involved Kaufman operating a silver 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling westbound on County Road 300 South. Having just moved past a passenger car, which also traveled westbound, Kaufman then attempted to pass a dump truck but lost control in the process, according to information provided by accident investigators and reported by WISH-TV. The series of unfortunate maneuvers led to Kaufman leaving the roadway, striking a mailbox, and being ejected from her motorcycle.
An autopsy to determine the precise cause of death is slated for Friday, alongside toxicology testing to further investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. The Jackson County Sheriff's Department is likely to release more information following the conclusion of these examinations.
