In a collaborative effort, the La Vergne Police Department (LPD) and the La Vergne Fire and Rescue Department (LFRD) are putting together a school supply drive to support students as they gear up for the upcoming academic year. Essential items that can help a child's education, such as pencils, backpacks, notebooks, and rulers, are being collected.
Locals can contribute by dropping off new supplies at several designated locations around the city, including La Vergne City Hall, the local police department, and the La Vergne Public Library. Hoping to make education accessible to all children, they can be found at 5093 Murfreesboro Road for the City Hall and Police Department, and at 5063 Murfreesboro Road for the Public Library.
According to details shared on La Vergne's official website, a special drop off event is scheduled for July 27, 2024, which coincides with the Tax Free Weekend. Taking advantage of the tax holiday, the LPD and LFRD are taking the final haul of donations at Walmart on Murfreesboro Road from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., where they will have several cruisers and a fire engine on display.
This sales tax holiday offers a reprieve from the usual taxes, including a waiver on clothing and school supplies under $100 and on computers priced under $1,500. It is seen as a time when families can save while providing for their children's educational needs. For those needing further particulars, more information about the sales tax holiday can be found on their website.
