A suspect wielding a knife was hit by a pickup truck on Interstate 95 in Miami-Dade this Monday morning during a confrontation with Florida Highway Patrol troopers, according to authorities. The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the incident occurred in the southbound lanes of I-95 near Ives Dairy Road, where the pedestrian was initially spotted walking along the highway's shoulder, according to NBC Miami.
FHP Lt. Alex Camacho stated that after troopers engaged the man, he "displayed a knife towards the troopers," as Local 10 reported. The man attempted to escape by dashing across the highway's travel lanes where he was struck by a black pickup truck, and this dramatic altercation led to aerial footage capturing the man laying in the median before he was placed into an ambulance.
The injured pedestrian was transported to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital and is listed in critical condition. As of the latest updates, authorities have not released the pedestrian's identity nor clarified the circumstances prompting his presence on the highway.
