Martin County Sheriff's Office deputy Yerandy Cairo, age 26, has found himself on the wrong side of the law following an arrest for stalking and loitering. According to a statement by the sheriff's office obtained by CBS12, Cairo was detained on five counts of loitering or prowling and one count of misdemeanor stalking on Friday.

Reports from the Stuart Police Department alerted the Martin County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) on June 18 about an off-duty deputy, later identified as Cairo, who was issued a trespassing warning. Following these allegations, MCSO acted quickly to not only put Cairo on paid administrative leave but also to immediately launch an Internal Affairs Investigation, which began on June 19. Yet, specifics about the case, especially regarding the victim, are scant due to the protections afforded under Marsy's Law, thus shielding their identity.

Cairo's tenure with the sheriff's office began last year on February 23, with him officially taking the oath as a deputy sheriff in October, as detailed by authorities and reported by WPBF. His arrest now casts a shadow on what has been a relatively new career in law enforcement.

The case is now moving to the courts, with Cairo slated to appear before a judge on August 15 at 8:30 a.m.
