The National Weather Service in Memphis forecasts a sunny day ahead, with temperatures soaring to a high near 94 degrees. While the wind remains subtle from the northwest at around 5 mph, the heat indexes predict even hotter sensations, peaking at 77 degrees Fahrenheit. As per their latest update early this morning, these conditions suggest a clear signal to locals and visitors alike—hydrate and prepare for a scorcher.
The NWS anticipates the heat to intensify over the weekend. Saturday's forecast does little to cool our expectations, as the city is to bask under a scorching sun with highs near 97 degrees and heat index values that could make the mercury feel like it's hitting a formidable 102. The consistent flow of calm, wind, eventually turned west-southwest at a leisurely 5 mph.
And there's scant relief as the sun dips below the horizon: nighttime brings minimal respite with lows hovering around the mid-70s. These conditions are expected to linger unchanging into the week—with each day, the sun holds court in clear skies, pushing temperatures toward the high 90s.
It isn't until midweek that the forecast introduces the prospect of precipitation with a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms on Wednesday, increasing to a 40 percent probability by the evening. Despite this promise of potential rainfall, temperatures remain fervently high, scarcely dipping below the 90-degree mark. Thursday offers a similar narrative with a 50 percent shot of showers and a modest cool down to a high near 90 degrees, as noted on the NWS website.
