Memphis, TN - A local man faces aggravated assault charges following a disturbing family dispute that resulted in a stabbing incident. Action News 5 reported that on July 1, Memphis Police Department officers were called to a residence on N. Watkins Street after an argument escalated violently between Antonio Burrows and his brother.
During the altercation, which unfolded in the presence of their mother, the suspect was accused of losing control after his brother's plea to calm down. According to the police affidavit, Burrows, wielding a kitchen knife, pushed his mother who stood between them, an action that ultimately led to the brother being stabbed in the lower stomach as she was forced aside. Despite her efforts, wounds were inflicted that left the victim bleeding profusely at the scene, as detailed by the WREG News Channel 3.
On arrival, officers found a grim scene, with a knife blade partially hanging from the victim's stomach that fell out when he lifted his shirt pertaining to the injury sustained. Amid chaotic and tense moments, witnesses and the mother narrated their accounts to authorities. Burrows initially claimed innocence, stating, "I didn't do anything." However, the mother reportedly saw Burrows stabbing her other son with what she described as a fork, according to eyewitness testimony which revealed the object to be a kitchen knife.
Additional witnesses corroborated the mother's account, telling officers they saw Burrows stab the victim in the stomach. As the investigation unfolded, officers discovered the handle-less serrated knife, taking pictures and collecting it for evidence. Following the incident, the accused was arrested and held on a $20,000 bond while his brother received medical attention for the wounds inflicted, as WREG News Channel 3 recounted.
