Authorities have arrested a man linked to a sexual assault in Miami Beach, as reported by Miami Beach Police. The incident, which occurred early Tuesday morning near the Beachwalk between 23rd and 24th streets, led to the arrest of 30-year-old Keith Hill Jr. in Hollywood. WSVN obtained a statement from the Miami Beach Police Chief, Wayne Jones, who confirmed Hill's custody status on Friday.
Hill, who has been identified as a registered sex offender from Illinois, was arrested following the issue of surveillance images that helped officers to quickly identify him. Authorities sought the public's help to track down Hill, and with their assistance, they recognized him on Hollywood Beach. He has been initially charged with giving a false name and failure to register as a sex offender. This arrest has once again brought to a forefront the relentless pursuit law enforcement must maintain to safeguard our communities from repeat offenders.
Disturbing footage from the scene depicts the violence of the attack, where the victim was seen rollerblading before being forcefully brought down to the ground and choked. According to a WSVN report, Miami Beach Police spokesperson Christopher Bess asserted that "there will be extensive charges" in the case. The victim was later hospitalized.
The gravity of the case has intensified following revelations about Hill's background. A check revealed his sex offender status in Illinois for a conviction of aggravated sexual abuse involving a minor. Despite his criminal history, Hill managed to, once again, get himself involved in a heinous crime. "We are working hand in hand with the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office to pursue the maximum charges that we can at this time," Christopher Bess told WSVN.
In a separate statement to Local10, a local resident, Christine King, expressed the unease the incident has caused among the community, saying, "I always leave here before it gets dark, there’s a creepy vibe after dark." Hill was initially taken to the Broward County Main Jail in Fort Lauderdale and is expected to be extradited back to Miami Beach, where the crime occurred. The Miami Beach Police Department is collaborating with the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office as the case progresses.
