In Miami-Dade, a disturbing scene unfolded at Tamiami Park where 61-year-old Beatriz Milagros Aguero was arrested for dragging her dog outside her vehicle. According to NBC Miami, the incident was reported after multiple calls to police by witnesses. Aguero, who is noted to be homeless, allegedly became belligerent when confronted by officers, stating she was trying to "dry" the dog which was "covered in s***."
As events transpired around 10:45 a.m. at the park, located on Southwest 24th Street, Aguero became "irate," asserting to the officers the animal needed airing as it had soiled itself, as mentioned in a Local 10 report. Witnesses previously saw Aguero hitting her dog in the park bathrooms and later speeding away with the animal struggling to keep up beside the vehicle.
Officials at Miami-Dade Animal Services took custody of the injured dog for safekeeping after Aguero was detained by the police. She faced charges of animal cruelty with intent to harm or kill. During booking at the jail, Aguero's aggression continued, resulting in an added charge for biting a corrections officer. The information regarding the charges has been corroborated by both news outlets.
In court, Aguero was represented by a public defender and ordered held on a $10,000 bond, which was reported differently at $5,000 by Local 10. The Tamiami Park incident was also captured on cellphone footage by an onlooker, attempting to halt the vehicle, which was cited in the Local 10 coverage.
