An armed home invasion turned drug bust took place in a Miami Airbnb in the Flagami neighborhood, leading to the arrest of five individuals on various charges, officials said. The Miami Police Department stated that during the incident, which occurred around 12:45 a.m. Thursday, the homeowners observed several men enter the residence with guns through their security cameras and immediately alerted the authorities. According to NBC Miami, upon arrival, police discovered a sizeable quantity of marijuana alongside $29,850 in cash.
While conducting their security sweep, officers met two men who were renting the property through Airbnb and reportedly fell victim to the home invasion. A subsequent search by narcotics investigators unearthed approximately 113.22 pounds of suspected raw cannabis, as indicated in an arrest report. The same report noted that the assailants had demanded money and had held one of the victims at gunpoint while forcing him to kneel and later lay on the floor. The robbers, attempting to flee the scene prior to police intervention, were intercepted nearby and apprehended.
In connection with the robbery and subsequent drug discovery, three men—22-year-old Tijhani Cairiq Brown, 23-year-old Rasambessa Wahlanii Johnson, and 28-year-old Jamouri Lee Sawyer—now face several grave charges. These include home invasion robbery with a firearm, armed burglary with assault or battery, and armed kidnapping. Additionally, per the same NBC Miami report, Brown and Sawyer have been charged with armed cannabis trafficking, while Johnson faces a charge for resisting an officer without violence.
The two Airbnb renters, identified as 33-year-old Robert Rincon and 43-year-old Johnny Guzman, are charged with attempted cannabis trafficking, among other offenses. In court on Friday, a judge ruled that Brown, Johnson, and Sawyer would be held without bond, whereas Bond was eligible to be posted by Guzman and Rincon. Further details indicated by police suggest that several pounds of cannabis were discovered along the escape path of the robbers, and around $11,000 in cash was recovered. Additionally, as mentioned in a WSVN report, the residence on Southwest 58th Avenue and Fifth Street was thought to be in use for the development and trafficking of marijuana.
