Designed to alleviate some of the financial pressure on low-income senior citizens, the SRAP offers up to $500 in monthly assistance for rent - a crucial support as monthly rental costs outpace many seniors' limited incomes. To qualify, an individual's earnings must not exceed 50% of the area median income (AMI), and their monthly rent must constitute over 30% of their household income, according to the NBC Miami article. Importantly, applicants must be current on their rent to be eligible.
Assistance, however, is not a guarantee. Prospective applicants are vetted against eligibility criteria, and those living in public housing or already enrolled in federally funded rental programs will not be considered.
