Miami residents and visitors planning to navigate the city this weekend should prepare for major road closures affecting the Dolphin Expressway. The eastbound lanes of State Road 836 will be closed for overnight construction work, the Florida Department of Transportation has confirmed. Detours will be in force starting from 11 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Yesterday, with an additional closure from 10 p.m. yesterday to 5:30 a.m. today.
Motorists are advised to exit at NW 17th Avenue and proceed south across NW 7th Street to navigate the closure. From there, a left turn on SW 1st Street and a subsequent right onto South Miami Avenue will lead drivers to the I-95 ramps heading north or south. Using the said detours, those headed for the MacArthur Causeway are directed to continue east on SW 1st Street and make a left on Biscayne Boulevard, as NBC Miami reports.
For those traveling from NW 12th Avenue and aiming to get onto eastbound SR 836 or I-95, the suggested path involves continuing south on NW 12th Avenue, taking a left at SW 1st Street, and then adhering to the outlined detours, as per FDOT's instructions, the city's official X account stated.

These disruptions are part of the larger I-395/SR 836/I-95 Design-Build Project aimed at reconstructing the I-395 corridor extending from the Midtown Interchange to the MacArthur Causeway Bridge. The FDOT has stressed the importance of this infrastructure work in improving Miami's traffic flow and safety. While the overnight closures are expected to cause temporary inconvenience, the long-term benefits are set to enhance connective transportation for Miami's road users, as explained in a statement by the FDOT, according to NBC Miami.
