The saga of three missing Indianapolis children reached a conclusion as law enforcement officials in Pearsall, Texas, safely located the juveniles following a tense standoff. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) confirmed that siblings Queen, King, and Frankie Terrell, who were subjects of a Silver Alert last week, were found unharmed. The IMPD, in a statement obtained by Fox59, expressed its collective gratitude towards the community for its role in the safe return of the children. "We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the community for your support, tips, and information, which were instrumental in the safe recovery of these children," the statement read.
The children's noncustodial parents, Willie Terrell, 50, and Jessika Officer, 31, have been detained on charges of interference with custody. They are accused to have illegally removed the children from Indiana in defiance of court orders, creating a multi-state law enforcement response. As reported by WISH-TV, the standoff at a Texas motel ended peacefully when the parents surrendered to authorities on Tuesday. The children had been last seen with their parents on July 4 at Famous Dave’s Bar-B-Que in Indianapolis, according to court documents. The children were taken from the restaurant in a white minivan after their grandfather, who has legal custody, stepped away momentarily.
The situation escalated to a high-profile case after detectives discovered that the children had been removed from their parents' custody in October due to medical neglect. According to WISH-TV, the neglect included failing to administer daily medications and insufficient feeding. This added urgency to the law enforcement efforts to locate the missing juveniles, who were ultimately found nearly a week after their disappearance.
Pearsall, Texas, Sheriff Flores provided details about the apprehension to a WRTV Affiliate KSAT, revealing that a cellphone ping was critical in directing the search efforts. We received a call from the Texas Department of Public Safety about a cellphone ping in Pearsall concerning the alert, Flores told KSAT. The alert had been issued across states amid fears the children may have been to be taken to Mexico by their biological parents.
