A collision at a Hillcrest intersection yesterday left a motorcyclist with a serious leg injury. The incident occurred at approximately 12:30 pm at the 8th Avenue and University Avenue crossing. The motorcyclist, a 49-year-old male, was traveling east on University Avenue when a Honda HR-V, driven by a 45-year-old female making a left turn, collided with his Ducati 950 SP motorcycle, the San Diego Police Department reports.
According to the SDPD Watch Commander's Log, the traffic lights were green for both directions at the time, and the injuries sustained by the motorcyclist were serious but not life-threatening. He suffered a fractured and displaced right tibia and was transported to the hospital for surgery. The driver of the Honda and her passenger, however, were not injured, and DUI has been ruled out as a contributing factor.
The San Diego Police Department's Traffic Division responded to the scene and is investigating the details of the crash. Any witnesses or individuals with information pertaining to this accident are encouraged to come forward and contact the department directly or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
