
An off-duty Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy lost his life in a tragic motorcycle crash in Sunrise, as confirmed by multiple sources. Deputy Anthony Zahorovsky, 27, was involved in the accident while riding on Pine Island Road, according to a statement from Local 10. The crash, which occurred just north of Northwest 44th Street, resulted in his immediate death at the scene.
Zahorovsky was southbound on Pine Island Road when his motorcycle collided with an SUV attempting to make a turn onto Springtree Lakes Drive, the time was approximately 12:20 p.m. The collision was so severe that, debris and scattered car parts marked the place of the tragic encounter. The occupants of the SUV, a mother and her adult daughter, sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment, 7News reported.
In the wake of the accident, the local law enforcement community has shared their grief and support. The Broward Deputy Sheriffs Association released a statement expressing their condolences, "During this difficult time, we extend our heartfelt condolences, thoughts, prayers and unwavering support to Anthony’s family. May they find strength in the memories of Anthony’s life and positive impact he had on those around him," as obtained by Local 10.
Zahorovsky, remembered as a dedicated father and a U.S. Army veteran, leaves behind a young family with a 2-year-old son, and a wife expecting their second child. "He was an amazing dad, and he loved what he was doing, and it just was a simple thing, and he lost his life," Andres Muneton, Zahorovsky’s cousin, told 7News.
The community and his colleagues are reeling from the loss, with BSO confirming the death "with deep sadness" and reinforcing their support for his family in these trying times, according to NBC Miami.
The aftermath of the accident saw police activity and a subsequent escort for Zahorovsky’s body to the medical examiner's office. While the investigation into the crash is ongoing, the community, for now, is focused on mourning and remembering a man who, even in his off-duty hours, found his final moments interwoven with the risks that shadow the lives of those in law enforcement. There has been no word yet on any charges or citations related to the collision.
