A tragic incident on the Northeast Side highway yesterday afternoon has resulted in the death of one individual and left another in critical condition after a flatbed truck hydroplaned and caused a severe accident, as confirmed by local San Antonio authorities and reported by FOX San Antonio.
The accident occurred near Loop 1604 at Judson Road around 12:30 p.m. Following the incident, the westbound lanes were closed, and significant delays affected the eastbound traffic—authorities advising drivers to find alternative routes to avoid the congested area.
According to the San Antonio Police Department, the flatbed truck was traveling westbound when it lost control in the wet conditions; it struck a highway sign, flipped, and landed on another vehicle, the intense collision leading to the instantaneous demise of the truck's driver and critical injuries to his passenger, as reported by KENS 5.
The identities of the men, believed to be in their 30s or 40s, have not been released at this time with emergency services quickly on the scene to extract the trapped passenger and rush them to the hospital where they remain in critical condition, the investigation is ongoing and Loop 1604 between Judson Road and Green Mountain Road is expected to be closed for several hours during the cleanup and investigative process.
