A shooting in Sellwood Riverfront Park has tragically ended the life of one male on Friday night. The Portland Police Officers from Central Precinct were summoned to the scene at 11:16 p.m., following reports of gunshots. Upon arrival, they discovered the victim already deceased, according to a release from the Portland Police Bureau.
Investigators state that the assailant or assailants managed to flee before the authorities were notified, leaving behind more questions than answers. A Homicide Unit is currently examining what transpired at the park, as Southeast Oaks Park Way remains closed at Southeast Spokane Street during their investigation, as detailed by the Portland Police Bureau. The quiet of the night was disrupted by violence, and now a hush has settled over the park, a silence that speaks to the suddenness of the event and the swiftness with which the perpetrators vanished.
Detectives are urging the public to come forward with any information. They believe that there were multiple eyewitnesses present when the gunshots rang out, who may have left the park without talking to the police. Detectives Mike Schmerber and Shaye Samora can be reached via email at [email protected] or [email protected], respectively. Alternatively, they can also be contacted by phone, with Schmerber available at 503-823-0991 and Samora at 503-823-0768. The police are asking that any tips refer to case number 24-174011.
