Patrons of the Round Rock Public Library should brace for a little shuffle in their routine starting next week, as the library has announced construction work on its exterior book drop-off. According to an official statement, the upgrade, kicking off on Tuesday, July 30, is meant to enhance the drive-through return service, but it will cause some temporary disruption, the book drop, which links to the interior return system, will be temporarily out of service for at least three to a maximum of seven days.

The exterior renovations are meant to "assist those that utilize our drive-through book return service on the outside of our building" and aim to make dropping off books more accessible, according to the library's release. Library officials anticipate the upgrades will take from three days to seven days, during which time both the exterior and interior book return slots might not be available for use, because these systems are interconnected.

So what's a diligent library-goer to do with their books in the meantime? Inside options are available: "We encourage our visitors to bring their materials inside the library. There will be carts available to place your materials," the library has instructed. To alleviate the problem of potentially accruing late fees while the book drop is out of operation, the library staff will step in and manually check in materials ensuring items are not considered late.

The library understands that this construction may be an inconvenience, and they've asked for the public's patience, emphasizing their request through their communication channels, "Most of all, we ask for your patience with our staff," the library states, knowing the high volume of items that circulate which now must be checked manually by the staff; they add, "This is time when you can show your appreciation by following the instructions posted inside the building." For any questions or concerns during the construction period, the library has provided a helpline at 512-218-7000.
