Dontre La Ron Nestle, a 28-year-old San Antonio man, has been handed a 37-year prison term following a series of violent offenses, including a fatal shooting after a pickup basketball game at an LA Fitness. According to a report by the San Antonio Express-News, Nestle pled no contest to the charges with his sentences to be served concurrently, and he is required to serve at least half of his sentence before being eligible for parole.
Details of the case, provided by the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office, paint a troubling picture of Nestle's involvement in several violent incidents. It all began in March 2020, when he broke into his ex-girlfriend’s house with the intention to assault her. After the basketball game on July 16, 2021, that resulted in 24-year-old Orlando Stuart's death and the critical injury of another man, Nestle's crime spree continued with a second shooting incident, occurring during another basketball game in January 2023, as reported by FOX San Antonio.
Bexar County Criminal District Attorney Joe Gonzales emphasized the gravity of the sentence. "Offenders like Dontre Nestle must be held accountable for their actions. This sentence demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that those who pose a continuous threat to the community's safety will face justice," Gonzales was quoted in the FOX San Antonio article. "We hope these sentences bring peace to all the affected families and provide closure to the Stuart family."
Moreover, Nestle's legal troubles include assaulting a player during a basketball game in 2023, and the subsequent foot chase with Converse police leading to his capture and conviction for the possession of a firearm by a felon. In closing the case, the DA's office has expressed a firm resolve against those disrupting public safety and a desire to reconcile the community following these events.
