They provided aid before he was transported to a local hospital for treatment of a fractured skull.

The attack was captured on video by the victim himself, showing the suspect obstructing a Waymo self-driving car and subsequently attacking the victim after he suggested that the suspect should let the car pass. The passenger of the Waymo vehicle, to whom the victim had spoken before the assault, remains unidentified. As per the victim's family, the man's cognitive impairment is a vital detail, accentuating the heinousness of the crime due to his visible disability.

The General Work Detail of the SFPD has taken over the investigation and is looking for the suspect. The aim is to identify the passenger who may provide additional details about the incident. The suspect is described as a male adult, approximately 25 to 30 years old, with a medium complexion and facial hair, spotted last in a dark backward baseball cap, black jacket, blue shirt, light blue jeans, and white sneakers. He was also carrying a white bag.
