Students of City College in South Florida have been left scrambling for answers after receiving an email stating that their school is abruptly shutting down. According to Local 10 News, students were told via an email sent out on Monday that the school would "cease enrollment and teach-out its existing programs." The sudden announcement has sparked frustrations among the student body, especially those close to completing their healthcare training programs.

In an interview, City College student Diana Ruiz conveyed her dismay to Local 10 News, "We just want answers." The campus located at 6565 Taft St. in Hollywood, has reportedly not held classes since the announcement was made. This unexpected cessation of academic activities has left many students like Ruiz, who has already invested approximately $12,000 in her education, uncertain about the future of their degrees and the validity of their credits should they attempt to transfer to different institutions.

The school had sent an assurance, as per NBC 6, stating that it anticipates remaining open through the Fall and Winter terms for those students who are less than 25% shy of completing their degree requirements. For those with more than 25% of their credits remaining, the email mentioned collaborations with neighboring educational institutions for creating teach-out plan agreements for possible credit transfers.

However, the communication from the college has been scant since, according to students, no clear reasons for the closure have been provided. "I spent close to $15,000 into my education with this institution and all of that goes down the drain, studying, clinicals, my mental health, money," a student described to NBC 6, "They're not even telling us why the institution is closing down, like we have no information, we want answers and we're not getting that." While NBC 6 has attempted to reach out to City College for a statement, they have not been able to make contact.

As tensions rise, students have been left to ponder the next steps in their educational paths without guidance from City College leadership. In the wake of the closure news, the faculty have also received termination letters, leaving their professional futures uncertain. The demand for answers remains pressing, as students' immediate futures hang in the balance. Despite this, City College's Instagram account had celebrated its latest batch of graduates early Wednesday morning, adding to the confusion and frustration felt by the school's community.
