Last night, a woman was brutally stabbed at Miami International Airport, sending waves of panic through the concourse and prompting a temporary suspension of airport operations. According to NBC Miami, the violent encounter occurred when a man repeatedly stabbed the woman and attempted to throw her over a railing. The victim managed to escape, descending the stairs to the third floor, where she received assistance from law enforcement officers.
The call initially misidentified as a potential active shooter scenario triggered chaos throughout the terminal before authorities recognized the situation stemmed from the stabbing incident. In the wake of the stabbing, Det. Angel Rodriguez stated, "There is no impact at all to airport operations, and it is considered an isolated incident." The suspect was promptly arrested near the scene of the attack, where officials, also apprehended the weapon used, as reported by NBC Miami.
Earlier reports indicated confusion among passengers. One passenger, Dana, chronicled her experience to NBC Miami: "We heard the escalation of the fight and somebody said run. When they said run, we all ran."
The Daily Mail further detailed the anxiety of travelers, with footage depicting airport-goers sprinting away in fear and confusion. Amidst initial lockdown procedures, the Miami International Airport addressed the incident via a statement released at 12:57 am affirming public safety remained a high priority, and that "Authorities responded immediately, and the situation was swiftly contained."
The lockdown was consequently lifted, and operations at the airport returned to regularity, in stark contrast to the earlier tumult. At present, detectives are looking into the dynamics of the relationship between the assailant and the victim, whose motives remain uncertain. Following the attack, the victim was transported to JMH Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition.
