Tragedy unfolded in the parking lot of the Elite Conover Complex in Catawba County, where deputies were forced into a fatal confrontation with a suspect Monday evening. According to WSOCTV, the individual has been identified as Pierre Ramseur, an employee of the business located on Farrington Street SW near Conover.
Ramseur was confronted by the Catawba County’s Special Tactics and Response team as part of an effort to arrest him on several charges including second-degree kidnapping, common-law robbery, felony larceny, misdemeanor larceny, communicating threats, and injury to personal property he also had an outstanding domestic violence protective order against him. The situation reportedly escalated when Ramseur, already out on bond in relation to a separate murder charge, refused to comply with officers' orders, a detail which emerges from the accounts of the WBTV report.
The fatal incident occurred around 6 p.m. during this law enforcement operation. As detailed by WCNC, Ramseur, instead of surrendering, attempted to use his vehicle as a battering ram against multiple law enforcement units, after which he drove his car directly toward the team of officers on the scene, which ultimately led to him being shot by members of the response team.
The Catawba County Sheriff's Office confirms that the shooting resulted in the death of Ramseur, marking a violent end to the attempted arrest in the Elite Comfort Solutions' parking lot; indeed, the force deemed necessary to stop the suspect in his tracks illuminates the perilous nature of law enforcement operations, particularly when the individual involved has a history of violent crime and poses an imminent threat to officer safety. Further details of the incident, including the names of the officers involved, have not been disclosed pending an ongoing investigation into the use of lethal force.
