A tragic culmination of a high-speed police chase and alleged criminal behavior resulted in the death of a man and left eight others injured, including four minors. According to the ABC7 Chicago report, the incident occurred on Saturday afternoon in Newport Township when a 32-year-old man from Salem, Wisconsin, crashed a stolen Lexus GS400 into a GMC Yukon after running a red light.

The suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene, had been attempting to evade law enforcement originating from Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin. During the chase, officers deployed a tire-deflating device that was successful, but the pursuit ended only after the fatal collision. The Chicago Sun-Times indicated that the pursuit concluded at approximately 4:30 p.m., near the intersection of Kilbourne Road and Route 173.

Among the injured in the Yukon were four young passengers, their ages ranged from 8 to 15, and four adults, including a 51-year-old passenger who is currently hospitalized in critical condition. The 30-year-old driver of the Yukon and the remaining passengers sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The Lake County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that several of the injured individuals were hospitalized following the incident.

The identity of the deceased driver is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, the Lake County Sheriff's Office stated. The driver, who had a record including a revoked driver's license and an active warrant in Lake County, was also a suspect in several other criminal activities in the area, including possession of methamphetamine and involvement in a number of burglaries. An autopsy is scheduled to be performed by the Lake County Coroner's Office, which will bring more insight into the cause of the fatality.
