
Tragedy has once again visited Auburn Gresham, with two young men fatally shot in separate incidents, marking a continued threat of violence in the community. In the first incident, 18-year-old Achilles C. Beasley was shot in the leg while seated in a vehicle on the 1800 block of West 88th Street around 6:50 p.m., as reported by the Chicago Sun-Times. Beasley, from the 5500 block of South Indiana Avenue, managed to get himself to St. Bernard Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly before 6:05 p.m.
The swift current of violence did not settle, as another 18-year-old, Trumaine Hatchett, was shot to rapidly meet his death inside a residence on the 8500 block of South Parnell Avenue. The incident occurred approximately at 10:56 p.m. on Tuesday. Hatchett was pronounced dead at the scene, where he was found with multiple gunshot wounds, according to information provided by the Chicago Tribune. Hatchett lived on the same block where the fatal shooting occurred.
As of now, no suspects have been placed into custody in relation to either homicide. The Chicago Police Department continues to investigate these separate events as the community reeling tries to seek answers. Details about the circumstances leading up to the shootings remain sparse.
