West Palm Beach residents, brace yourselves for a flurry of traffic revisions and road closures starting this month. The City of West Palm Beach has announced multiple roadwork projects and event-related closures that are sure to affect your daily commute, spanned across several locations and potentially impacting traffic flow throughout the summer.

Highlighted in the extensive list by City of West Palm Beach Engineering, Public Works & Utility, Washington Road is undergoing a full transformation – streetscape redesign and all – extending through July. This includes upgrades to underground utilities, sidewalks, and storm drainage. Expect lane closures along parts of Northwood Hills, Datura Street, and Tamarind Avenue to persist as well, with projects focusing on underground utilities and storm sewer rehabilitation.

Not just daily commuting, but special events are getting their due roadblocks. Clematis by Night is set to take over parts of North and South Clematis Streets and adjacent avenues on July 11 and 18, requiring closures from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. Independence Day will see closures too, with Flagler Drive shutting down on July 3 at 9 a.m. until the afternoon of July 5, and additional stretches of downtown roads are closing or limiting access on the 4th.

Private projects are joining the fray, such as One Flagler's enduring road and sidewalk closures around Chase Street and Lakeview Avenue. "No site deliveries in the work zone," as per the project update by the City of West Palm Beach, but the expected day-to-day traffic in the area will undoubtedly be hampered through the summer of 2024. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) also weighs in with its multi-year SR 710/Beeline Highway Reconstruction Project, guaranteeing lane closures and traffic shifts until late 2029.

City docks aren't escaping the closure wave, either. The Clematis Street Docks and the Fern Street Dock will experience brief closures on July 4 at 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., as mentioned in the advisories, while boat ramps like those at Currie Park and Lake Mangonia Park are staying open, but times are strictly sunrise to sunset.
