The Orlando-based company is trimming its workforce to refine its marketing and operational support teams, a move driven by an objective to harmonize and enhance efficiency across its business practices. This development was disclosed on June 28 via a formal notice on the Florida Department of Commerce website, citing the end date for the affected roles as August 30, as reported by ClickOrlando.
Noteworthy is that, while the layoffs signify a sizeable reduction, Westgate Resorts is advocating for those impacted to seek other opportunities within the sprawling hospitality enterprise. The company articulated in a statement that "Team Members affected by these changes will be given the opportunity to apply for open and available positions throughout the company", as per FOX 35. Acknowledging the personal impact, these layoffs will have, the company emphasizes its internal job market as a potential next step for those being displaced.
The consolidation comes as a strategic step by Westgate Resorts, which has experienced considerable growth since its founding in 1982 by David Siegel. The firm has expanded to include 22 resorts throughout the United States, becoming the largest privately held corporation headquartered in Central Florida.
