On Saturday afternoon, a one-alarm fire broke out at the Castro US Bank (443 Castro St.) at approximately 3:51 p.m.

San Francisco firefighters quickly arrived on scene and extinguished the fire by 4:30 p.m. The fire appears to have started in the rear of the commercial building adjacent to the public parking lot and Castro Theatre.

SFFD spokesperson Jonathan Baxter stated, "No injuries have been reported at this time."

Many Castro residents and visitors were alarmed by how close the flames and smoke were to the Castro Theatre which is currently undergoing renovations.

"Crews are making it a priority to ensure that no fire extends to this location," said Baxter about protecting the theatre. "There is no fire and no damage to the Castro theater at this time."

US Bank did not respond to Hoodline's request for comment.

Another Planet Entertainment spokesperson David Perry confirmed to Hoodline that the Castro Theatre sustained no damage.

“We want to thank our wonderful San Francisco Fire Department for their efforts." said Perry. "Luckily, there was no damage to the Castro Theatre."

"We have had our restoration team do an assessment," added Perry. "They will do a final analysis tomorrow. We ran negative air pressure for several hours to mitigate any smoke odor.”

According to Baxter, the cause of the fire is currently "under investigation."
