Tragedy struck Chicago's West Englewood neighborhood on Saturday night when a 17-year-old boy was killed, and another teen, aged 16, was wounded in a shooting incident. The violence occurred on a porch in the 6700 block of South Loomis Street near 9:20 p.m., as reported by the Chicago Sun-Times. The teens were approached by an unknown individual who opened fire, leaving the community to once again bear the weight of senseless violence.
The older teen suffered critical injuries to his stomach and back and was quickly transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center. Despite attempts to save his life, he succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead at the hospital, as detailed by the Chicago Sun-Times. His companion, the 16-year-old, was also taken to the same medical center to quickly receive treatment for a chest wound. According to authorities, he is currently in good condition. No suspects have been apprehended in connection to the shooting as of yet, leaving a veil of fear and uncertainty draped over the area residents.
As the investigation proceeds, the Chicago Police Department's Area One detectives are piecing together the events that led to the tragedy. FOX 32 Chicago noted that no one is currently in custody as detectives continue to actively investigate the harrowing incident.
