A tragic incident unfolded yesterday at Amelia Earhart Park near Hialeah, where a three-year-old girl drowned, according to local authorities. In a statement obtained by CBS News Miami, Miami-Dade Police reported that the toddler was at the park accompanying an adult family member when she became separated from them. The relative alerted the police, leading to an intense search for the young girl.
The search came to a heartbreaking conclusion when park rangers found the child in a body of water within the park premises. Despite the efforts to save her life, the toddler was later pronounced dead at Palmetto General Hospital after being transported there by Hialeah Fire Rescue. A separate report by NBC Miami confirmed the tragic outcome.
Law enforcement officials are currently investigating the circumstances that led to the drowning, with the relative who was with the girl cooperating fully, as both CBS News Miami and NBC Miami pointed out. Miami-Dade Police have not yet released additional details surrounding the events, continuing to piece together what happened before the child's death.
