
A 64-year-old man was critically injured earlier today when his scooter was struck by a car in Miami. The man was riding his scooter on Coral Way near SW 27th Avenue when the accident occurred, with City of Miami Fire Rescue responding to the scene, as NBC Miami detailed.
Upon their arrival, authorities found the man had been ejected from the scooter whereupon Miami Fire Rescue personnel rushed him to Ryder Trauma Center suffering from multiple injuries; he was reported to be in critical condition, as per WSVN. The incident caused considerable traffic disruptions along Coral Way, although southbound lanes were eventually reopened, eastbound and westbound lanes remained obstructed as crews worked to clear the accident's aftermath.
Separate reports from the vicinity of Miami Norland Senior High School indicate that the man was struck while navigating near the intersection of Northwest Seventh Avenue and Northwest 194th Street in Miami Gardens, as told by Miami Fire Rescue Lt. Pete Sanchez to Local 10. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and the identity of the injured man has not been disclosed by the authorities at the current time.
Visible damage to the right fender area of the car involved was noted at the scene, where debris from the scooter lay scattered across the road, aerial footage from 7Skyforce showed the extent of the wreckage and ongoing clean-up efforts, the vehicle was seen on a sidewalk with no further details on what led to the crash have been released yet. Traffic flow has been impacted, with tow trucks sighted at the scene removing the scooter and workers sweeping debris from the roadway, according to coverage from WSVN.
