Early this morning, a carjacking event took place in Vista on S. Santa Fe Avenue, sending Sheriff's Deputies on a chase that ended in a crash. Around 1:25am, the Sheriff's Office received a report that a victim was forced out of their vehicle by five armed males. Thankfully, the victim came out of the situation unharmed. Subsequent police actions quickly located the stolen car near W. Vista Way and Emerald Drive. According to the San Diego Sheriff's Department, responding deputies attempted to stop the stolen vehicle, but the driver chose to flee, leading officers on a pursuit instead hastily.
Despite efforts to keep a low profile, the chase ended abruptly when the driver of the stolen vehicle collided with a small median. At the time of the collision, only the driver occupied the stolen car – his companions from the initial incident were notably absent. The arrested individual, an adult male whose identity has not been revealed, was safely taken into custody and is to assess the extent of the injuries sustained in the crash at a hospital. To further complicate the scene, the authorities are actively seeking to locate the other suspects involved possibly.
This incident now unfolds into an ongoing investigation, with details still emerging. While pieces of this puzzle are put together, the San Diego Sheriff's Department has been circumspect about releasing further information, particularly about the suspect's identity and the whereabouts of the other alleged accomplices. Anyone with information is encouraged to reach out.
