The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department has made public edited bodycam footage showing the moments leading up to a lethal confrontation between police and a man who had reportedly been involved in a shooting incident. The footage, drawn from the incident that occurred on June 25, documents police response to an active shooter situation on the city’s northeast side, as reported by FOX59.

The videos begin with a graphic explaining that the IMPD officers responded to the 9000 block of Wesleyan Road around 3 p.m., under distress calls that an individual had fired multiple shots and had used his pickup truck to deliberately slam into another vehicle. It was at this location, near a business area, that the series of events escalated, culminating in officers fatally shooting the suspect, whom authorities identified as 45-year-old Elijah Radford, as WRTV detailed.

According to information obtained by WISH-TV, Radford tracked down his wife and shot her in the hand before attempting, unsuccessfully, to fire at her head. A civilian who intervened was bitten multiple times by Radford during the altercation. Both the wife and the good Samaritan sustained injuries described as non-life-threatening.

Setting off a rapid police pursuit, Radford was to be next seen fleeing along I-465 before he stormed into an apartment on Craig Street, where he held a woman at knifepoint. The released bodycam footage reveals officers entering an apartment with audible screams from a woman. "Drop the knife," an officer can be heard commanding, before gunshots are fired, according to FOX59. Radford was shot and killed by both an IMPD officer and an officer from the Lawrence Police Department, and the woman taken hostage was unharmed in the resolution of the standoff.
