The Boerne Little League team has made an unprecedented leap to the Little League World Series, marking the first time in their program's history they'll play on the fields of Williamsport, Pennsylvania. According to FOX San Antonio, the team clinched their spot with a comeback victory over Louisiana, 6-3, during the Southwest Regional Championship on Tuesday night.
The game did not begin in Boerne's favor as Louisiana took an early lead, putting up three runs in the second inning against Boerne's starting pitcher Julian Hurst, the fourth inning was a game-changer when Boerne unloaded six runs without recording a single out and Doc Mogford hit a grand slam that ultimately sealed the win, FOX San Antonio reports.
As The Boerne Star notes Mogford not only shone with his batting but also on the mound, stepping up after Hurst had to step down, and showcasing his versatility as a player Mogford helped secure their ticket to the big stage with his crucial pitching in the final innings.
