Braintree, the otherwise quiet Massachusetts suburb, now finds itself grappling with the unnerving echoes of gun violence. Early Sunday morning, citizens of the 2000 block of Washington Street awoke to the startling reality of a targeted shooting incident, which sent dozens of bullets tearing through a local home. As reported by NBC10 Boston, the sequence of gunfire unfolded in two parts, with the initial shots fired at around 5 a.m., and a subsequent bout of horrific noise around 7:45 a.m. that shook the neighborhood to its core.
Investigating officers counted nearly 25 shots in the audio captured by a Ring video doorbell, as disclosed to NBC10 Boston. As many as 31 evidence markers were seen scattered across the lawn, indicating the extent of the onslaught. Braintree police, quick to address the disturbance, emphasized that they believe this was not a random act – an attempt to somewhat ease the community's rattling anxiety.
Further details about the incident were scant, as reflected in the reporting by Boston 25 News. With multiple evidence markers indicating where each bullet fell, and the home's front glass door shattered, the site of the shooting spoke silent volumes about the episode's severity.
Braintree residents were already bringing forth the threads of recollection in the hours that followed. "Around like 5:15 this morning, I woke up to what I thought were 5 or 6 gunshots, and I went back to bed because I didn't really think much of it," recalled resident John Burke, speaking to WCVB. "Later this morning, like a couple hours after that, I woke up and to more, of what apparently was gunshots," he added.
No suspects have been identified, and the investigation is actively pursued by the Braintree Police Department.
