Residents in Chicago’s 9th District (Deering) are on alert after a series of armed robberies were reported this month. According to a community alert from the Chicago Police Department, one to three male suspects have been approaching victims with handguns, demanding their belongings and cash before fleeing the scene in a silver Kia Sportage, with the distinctive Texas Dealer Plate "TCV5044".
The string of incidents occurred around the 2300 Block of South Wentworth Avenue and the 300 Block of West 23rd Street on August 11. These crimes took place in close proximity both location and time wise, with two robberies happening to occur less than an hour apart as night encroached upon the city. Descriptions provided by the victims detail the suspects as male, black, one appearing to be between the ages of 30-35, around 6'01", and wearing a black baseball cap and black ski mask.
Chicago Police are urging the community to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activities immediately. They are advising people to stay calm if confronted and to make an effort to remember any unique identifiers of their assailants. The CPD also emphasizes the importance of not chasing after the suspects and instead swiftly dialing 9-1-1. They also recommend preserving any video surveillance footage and requesting contact information from any witnesses, should the situation arise.
