A man was fatally shot early Friday morning in Chatham, on Chicago's South Side while attempting to enter his vehicle. ABC 7 Chicago reports the incident occurred on the 7900 block of South Wabash Avenue, just before 6:45 a.m.
Chicago Police detailed that the 30-year-old, later identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office as Nicholas A. Hughes according to CBS News Chicago, was approached and shot by multiple armed suspects while he was getting into his car. The assailants subsequently escaped in an unknown direction, and no arrests had been made as of the latest updates.
Hughes was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, as per CBS News Chicago. The fatal shooting has prompted an investigation by Area Two detectives, but details about the suspects or their motives had yet to be released.
