The Chicago Police Department has issued a business alert to both businesses and residents of the 7th District (Englewood) concerning a series of armed robberies that have taken place in August. Specific incidents reported included two robberies at a Clark Gas Station on the 6100 Block of South Ashland Ave, with the first occurring on August 4 at 5:00 PM and the second on August 14 at 12:30 AM, as reported by the Chicago Police Department.
Witnesses describe the suspects as two African American males, believed to quickly be between the ages of 18-21. They were seen wearing black hoodies and were armed with a black rifle, which was reportedly tucked into their waistband during the robberies. They purportedly demanded Black-wood cigars and drinks before fleeing the scene in a grey 2021 Nissan SUV, according to the CPD.
The alert provides several recommendations to enhance safety and aid in the apprehension of the suspects. Citizens are urged to always stay attentive to their surroundings and report any suspicious activity immediately. Gas station employees are specifically cautioned to look out for individuals carrying weapons. In the event of a confrontation, individuals should strive to remain calm and note any distinguishable physical characteristics of the assailant.
The police stress the importance of not pursuing fleeing suspects, instead advising individuals to contact police by dialing 9-1-1 and—when possible—to stay on the scene until officers arrive. Businesses that have video surveillance systems are instructed to preserve a copy of the footage for investigative purposes.
